publishing, communications, services for a better ‘quality of life’,
in the heart of southern europe and the mediterranean.
set up in 2008, arte’m completed its business development, which has a long history, in december 2010: at the end of a complex merger involving the integration and rationalisation of resources and structures, within a framework of a project of consolidation, simplification and further innovation of shared experiences, arte’m was definitively incorporated into prismi, the parent company.
with its head office still in posillipo, arte’m can count on the same set of resources and guiding policies, and an even greater attention to the addition and permanent selection of new energies and skills designed to undertake more demanding projects which continue to develop day by day.
the original publishing team was established in 1980, as a result of the far-sighted support of neapolitan entrepreneurs; it became a leading player in the telecommunications and information technology sector, with a solid structure in the italian and International economic fabric: it was on this basis that prismi was set up ‘at the service’ of the generous commitment of the istituto italiano per gli studi filosofici (italian institute for philosophical studies) headed by gerardo marotta.
in 1983, after a first phase of rigorously scientific experimentation, prismi set up electa napoli, an unprecedented collaborative initiative involving neapolitan business partners who were increasingly determined to pursue a ‘local mission’, together with specialised national capital from electa italia, receiving full autonomy for deciding the planning and operational side of the new company from its foundation.
market research findings and cultural awards exceeded even the most optimistic predictions (thanks partly to the daily commitment of a united team and the systematic training of human resources and the selection of local suppliers). this success has gradually extended the scope of initiatives to the entire range of products and services for publishing, for integrated communication and cultural tourism: from the design to the production of complex publishing initiatives, to the first ‘high quality secondary’ initiatives on sale in newsagents in southern italy, through the systematic cataloguing of the archaeological, artistic and environmental heritage, to the new frontiers of online digital materials.
since march 2008, due to differences regarding the identity of the company and local osmosis, prismi sold its shares in electa napoli, reinvesting the accumulated experience in new autonomous ventures.
using this precious heritage of resources and skills, prismi is now ready to continue to push back the horizons and critical points of ‘traditional’ publishing – through its registered trademark arte’m and the broader network of ‘specific alliances of excellence’ [see consorzio arte’m net]. it will seek to give shape to those professions that are still largely waiting to be defined [well beyond the changes caused by the revolution of technology and social forms of communication], for the so-called ‘quality of life’.
